Feeling like a kid again

The greatest challenge in writing this entry was actually to find some kind of title for it. Well obviously I have decided on one, after considering what had happened. You'll see below how this is meant and how this has gained sort of positive and negative connotations this weekend.

Saturday we celebrated one of my nieces‘ birthday. It was loud, it was crowded and a lot of fun. My niece had asked for a party in an indoor playground. The kids (aged 7 to 11) had all been there before, so they were real experts and with an air of importance my nieces had told me days before, what to expect. It was not even far away, hubby, Tilda and I went a little earlier, and we had agreed to help out whenever the kids needed attention. … Oh my, this almost caused trouble with hubby, because we had agreed to come and I had offered helping my sister and brother in law. Hubby did not like this, because he wanted me to care for Tilda and otherwise relax, because somehow the nights are shorter than they used to be. :D

Of course I know that hubby did not want to spoil the fun, still, when we went there, he gave a little hint, by saying “Don’t let her chase after the kids. She’s not up to that yet.” ('She' has got a name!!!) The real hint was to be read in his face, saying that he would not allow me to do much more than dealing with a few minor things. Somehow, hubby was so not pleased, because he had gotten the idea that I would be too busy all afternoon.

My sister understood and she assured hubby that none of that would happen (besides, there were enough adults). And then one of my absolute non-favourites happened. The two of them were discussing me above my head (can be funny, but not when it has a serious tone to it!) and I had to bite my tongue because if it is not just for fun I don’t like that. … And this is understated!

But I also knew that any additional word from my side might easily have started everything all over again. It’s because I would have tried to downplay what my sister and I had talked about before.

Well, I had offered to help more than a little bit, but we should not be pooterish now, should we?

Hubby would have known immediately, since I love doing whatever I can with my nieces, for my nieces and in this case also for the friends of my nieces, so any attempt at sugarcoating was out of the question. Seems I have a husband who knows this. Well, I kept quiet, hubby and sister settled this as quickly as hubby had started it and the afternoon was just a lot of fun.

My only duty in the afternoon was to eat cake, feed Tilda, show her around and to refill water or lemonade a few times. Btw, did you know that there are indoor playgrounds where adults are not supposed to use the gadgets and monkey bars? Well, hubby did not want me to do that anyway, but I managed to use one of the slides, the biggest around. It was a steep climb up, but sliding down was worth it! I can’t wait for Mathilda to be old enough to do that … with me!

It was almost like this one

I hope you all have a fantastic week,

  1. Ah, the joys of play gyms - the screams, the stuck kids, the slide that goes too fast, too slow and the sock rule. We used to go every week to one, now we rarely if ever. I'm glad you were told to take it easy, your time will come to host these parties :)

    1. Hi DF, it seems you could be a play gym tester! :-) We had no stuck kids, but a few had abraded skin because they threw themselves down one of the slides of some kind of bouncy castle. This was really steep, and they all enjoyed falling down maybe 6 feet before they’d land/crash onto a soft air cushion. … I would not have dared to do this, but they loved it and climbed up like mad, only to jump, slide and crash again and again.

You are right, although we did not host this party, I was pretty tired throughout the night and the following day, I mean, more than I’d be otherwise, so hubby was absolutely right with stopping me, and I do appreciate him doing these things.
I’d love to go to the play gym with Tilda, and for the youngest ones, around two years old, they had a separate section. This will be totally exciting for Tilda when she is old enough! (for me too)

  2. That's the best part of having kids, you get to relive your childhood all over again! Glad you didn't over do it at the party, and were still able to have a great time :)

    1. Hi Jennelle, apart from the slightly bumpy start (which was my mistake), it was a lot of fun and we enjoyed it so much. Climbing up and sliding down has been a totally different kind of activity and the first time for months, so that just doing this was exciting. And not doing too much at the party was the better way, because I felt so much more tired the rest of the weekend.

  3. LOL Nina...I can just see you sliding down that slide and I am sure that when Tilda is old enough, she going to love the fact that she has such an awesome mommy who is willing to slide with her. You really need to stockpile any energy so that you can share it as needed (key word being need not you volunteering LOL).

Thanks so much for the shout out...so happy you enjoyed the post. Wishing you and yours an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

    Hugs and Blessings...

    1. Hi Cat, I can’t wait for Tilda to slide with me. But we’ll start really small, so that she can practice first, but then we will race down there! :)
Oh my, stockpiling is not my strength yet, but I try to get better, well, actually I have to, because I have had some days and nights when I really felt like a remote control is operating me. No thinking, only doing what needs to be done and back to bed. I’ll learn that, because I feel the strain every time I do more than I should.

Thank you once again for the beautiful post, I loved it so much. Happy Thanksgiving holiday!

    1. Hi Roz, the party was funny, and we enjoyed ourselves a lot. The slide was great, just because I could not do such things throughout this year. … And there has been so much different playground equipment that I’d love to try with Tilda. Well, next summer I’ll probably relearn how to make cakes in sand molds first. It will be fun to do these things with my little one. :)

    1. Hi Jan, I loved being there, the kids were all so busy and had endless fun. I love to see that. Well, I think I am maybe getting better at managing everything around here again too, but sometimes I still do it wrong, when I do not rest even though I could. Nevertheless I think these moments are decreasing in number, so I guess we are on a good way.
