Before anybody worries about Mathilda, I am not drinking coffee … yet, because I want to avoid anything that could cause problems for her. …But I have sipped one tiny little bit of this hot juice, just for the taste.
Oh, I have
waited for the taste of my beloved coffee for almost a year, was anticipating
what it would be like. I must be strangely wired, as this coffee is something I
missed almost as much as I do miss spankings. Imagine the months-long torture
of brewing hot, black, pure liquid ambrosia (add milk and sugar, if you like),
smelling it, when it is fresh, and passing it on to your beloved husband who enjoys it then. Every
time, no exception.
Well, this
has been my situation up to now, but hubby allowed me this one little tiny sip this
morning, only for the taste of it. It was really hot, so it was only on my lips
and I took it in by tongue, waiting for the sweet bitterness to come.
…. Waiting
…. Waiting
…. ok, waited
long enough.
Mr Coffee, you disappoint me
I did not like what I tasted. The smell of
fresh coffee is still unbelievably awesome, but the taste was boring. How disappointing! Nevertheless,
in a way it makes me laugh, because skipping coffee as long as I am nursing will
be pretty easy if the taste is that of dirty old socks. Tea, anybody?
LoL Nina, well, at least this little taste should help you continue to stay off coffee. Don't drink it myself. Tea on the other hand I drink by the bucket! LoL.
ReplyDeleteHope you are all doing well.

Oh Roz, I will definitely stay off coffee for the time being. I'd do it anyway, because of Mathilda, but the taste ... Yuck. I have always loved coffee, but currently tea is far better, the healthy herbal ones. But I can't wait to try it again, maybe sometime next year's summer.

It took a long time to rediscover coffee after I stopped drinking it. I do like Roosbuis tea, which has no caffeine and best drunk black.
ReplyDeleteOne ingredient I couldn't eat while breastfeeding was garlic. My daughter refused to feed whenever I put her on the breast, she flapped about distressed before latching on, so I knew it wasn't the taste. It took me a while to realise I smelt wrong to her. She basically rejected me!
So no garlic and even now, I'm not as fond of it as I use to be.
But just think, now you're not pregnant, you can eat soft cheese and all those over banned substances!
My first meal after her birth was runny fried egg and rare steak.

Hi DF, rooibos tea is great and I am glad that there is some variety possible, too. Coffee is definitely a no-no for the time being, but that’s fine, since I haven’t had it for this year at all. Garlic is another one I have to do without, the part about the garlic aroma is true (smell and taste). That’s why I prefer hubby to eat pineapple sometimes… :)
DeleteI have tried only a few peas yesterday and the result was not really a success with Mathilda, as she gets wind from that, so I won’t be eating peas and better leave out other legumes as well. I try hard to eat so that she doesn’t get digestive problems, because I feel helpless then and absolutely suffer vicariously with her.
Hey, I hadn’t had the idea before you mentioned it, but this morning we had fried eggs, pretty heavy for a breakfast, but I loved it and will try new meals. I can’t wait to have some fish again, which I have not had for ages. Yum Yum

Yeah NO GARLIC...made my guys kick and scream when they were digesting. They drank fine, but their little plumbing didn't seem to like it.
ReplyDeleteWell good thing you tried the coffee, so you won't feel like you are missing anything anymore!
willie
Hi Willie, you are absolutely right about the garlic, I had that in my list of no-nos. I do not miss coffee at all at the moment, because of the bad taste I had from it, but otherwise I can’t wait to try some other food. Not too much dairy, not spicy, not acidic, etc. I have got a new mantra for the next months!

Hi Nina.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the coffee, maybe a latte would be better? After my third was born, I was still nursing my second child too, so I needed to make extra milk and I had to drunk this awful herbal tea with lots of hops...good in beer, horrible in tea!
Hi River, sorry that you had to drink hops in tea. I have tried that with melissa (? lemon balm?), and it was ok, but otherwise, not my favourite either. We had thought about a latte, and I know that if I had one little bit right after nursing, there should not be a problem for Mathilda when she gets her milk two hours later, but for now I actually prefer no coffee. OMG I can’t believe I am writing this voluntarily! :)
